- How do I save a map or table?
Select the map or table that you wish to save to your own hard disk from the relevant
selection table. Use the PowerPoint option for the map and the Excel option for the table.
Once the file has opened, select the File, Save As option from the main Explorer toolbar.
A window will open enabling you to select where you wish to save the file.
You will then be able open the file from your own machine using PowerPoint for the maps
and Excel for the tables. If you wish to copy the map image into another document such as
a Word file, click on the image in PowerPoint and select Copy, use the paste option to put
the image where you want it. (You may have to resize the image).
Once saved onto your own hard disk you will be able to use the data in the Excel table for
calculations. Please be aware that you can actually make changes to the information!
Copyright restrictions apply, please ensure that

- How do I print a map or table?
In order to print a map or table it is preferable to open the relevant file in PDF
format from the selection table. Once the file has opened you will find a printer icon in
the top left hand corner of the toolbar that has appeared underneath the main CCNAP
buttons. If you click on this Printer Icon a Print dialogue box will appear enabling you
to choose from the printers that are connected to your computer.
Ideally the maps should be printed on a colour printer, for most of the tables a black and
white printer will be fine. Please be aware of the Copyright
restrictions.

- What is the best way to view a map?
-
- Once you have selected a Local Authority and a subject heading you will be presented
with a selection table. There are two ways to access the maps, through PDF files and
through PowerPoint files. For a quick overview of the whole map you can select the
PowerPoint file, however you will not be able to zoom in or out at all. If you use the PDF
option you will initially only see part of the map, but you will be able to use the scroll
bars and you can zoom in and out using the magnifying glass icons.

- What is the best way to view a table?
-
- Once you have selected a Local Authority and a subject heading you will be presented
with a selection table. There are two ways to access the tables, through PDF files and
through Excel files. Both options will only offer a partial view of the whole table, but
both have scrollbars to view the rest. The PDF option offers additional zoom options
through the small magnifying glass icons.

- What is a PDF file?
-
- PDF stands for Portable Document Format. In effect it is a "picture" of a
document created with Adobe Acrobat Writer. In order to view PDF files you will need to
have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. This is available from the Adobe site and is free.
This file format means that the actual file can not be edited and that the file size is
reduced.

- What does it mean when something is underlined?
-
- If any of the text on a page is underlined this means that this section is
"linked" to another relevant section or document. You will find that your cursor
changes from an arrow to a little hand where this is the case. By clicking on the
underlined text you will be taken to this section or document.

When I use the back button the frames are no longer
"in sync"
We are aware of this problem and hope to solve it in the future. Because of the way the
frames are currently set up the Back button changes the side frame first and then the main
frame. They should change at the same time. If you lose synchronicity please click on one
of the main buttons at the top.

Whilst opening files I get an error message
If you are opening files from the tables it is possible that you may encounter the
following message:

- When you open files Acrobat Reader will have opened in the background, this can be seen
by the Acrobat Reader indicator at the bottom of your screen. In order to refresh the
reader click OK, then click on the indicator and close the programme either by clicking on
the x in the top right corner or by selecting File Exit. If you then click on the refresh
button of Explorer, you will be able to continue.
If you get a message which says that the file can not be found then there is a problem
with the actual link. This could be because the server is down (in which case you could
try again later) or because there is an error with the link. If the problem persists
please contact us and we will
sort it out.
